The 4JET Group (Alsdorf, Germany) has acquired orders and framework agreements worth a total of more than EUR 10 million from a long-standing Chinese customer. Over the next two years, 4JET will equip several new production facilities for CIGS or CdTe thin-film solar cells with laser systems for edge deletion, via drilling and contact exposure. The projected factories have an annual production capacity of around 1.5 gigawatts. First machines will be delivered in mid-2021.
4JET has been a successful supplier to the photovoltaic industry for over 10 years. By establishing a local subsidiary in Shanghai, 4JET is able to offer its customers consistent local support in sales and service, even during the travel restrictions in the pandemic. Equipment development continues to take place in Germany, where the company's 140 employees also produce micro-material processing machines for the manufacture of smart windows, displays and automotive glazing, as well as machines for processing tires.
The global photovoltaic industry continues to promise strong growth - solar power's share of the global energy mix is forecast to rise from 2% today to more than 20% in 2050. Solar power is now competitive in many regions of the world without any form of subsidy.
"We are pleased to continue to contribute to the green energy transition with our technology-leading solutions" comments Dr. Marc Hüske, Head of the Micromachining Business Unit, on the new orders. His colleague Oliver Albrich adds, "Technology from Germany with local engineering and service support in China was crucial for this success."
